In collaboration with 14 organizations, including the Houston Parks Board, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, and the cities of Houston and Katy, the projects are intended to prioritize public safety, flood prevention, enhanced connectivity and improved park access.
About the projects
In a news conference Dec. 9, Briones said 11 projects will fall within the city of Houston, and the remaining nine projects are located throughout Cypress and Katy.
The selected projects span a variety of needs and stages, including nine planning projects, eight design and construction projects, two-design only projects and one maintenance project.
Houston will receive approximately $16.6 million in funding for 11 projects, such as:
- $1.5 million to enhance five intersections in Houston
- $5 million to upgrade traffic signals at 11 intersections in Houston
- $6 million to include additional bus stops in the Gulfton and Sharpstown neighborhoods
- $500,000 to complete a sidewalk study across the entire city with an emphasis on accessibility to schools
- $500,000 to complete Houston's design concept review for its 12th Street drainage and mobility project
- $1.6 million to design a 2.7-mile trail connecting Wirt Road to the White Oak Bayou Greenway
- $350,000 to replaced 9,363 feet of sidewalk in the Green Trails and Heatherwood Park sidewalk in Katy ISD
- $17 million to construct a 2-mile boulevard connector between Warren Ranch Road and Katy-Hockley Road
- $393,000 to create a multi-use path connection along Greenhouse Road and Park Row in Katy
- $1.3 million to study road widening of Katy Ford Bend Road from Kingsland to I-10
- $50,000 to evaluate the extension of sidewalks and installation of pedestrian bridges to connect the Morton Ranch subdivision with Katy ISD's Morton Ranch elementary, junior high and high school
- $6 million to design a hike and bike trails adjacent to Cypress Lakes High School
- $360,000 to build new sidewalks in the Barker area
- $6 million to transform a detention area into a public space with trails and recreation near Cypress Park High School
- $350,000 to conduct a feasibility study for a 3-mile trail connecting John Paul Landing to Jack Road along a CenterPoint easement in Bridgeland
