With 64 of 187 Harris County election voting centers reporting, unofficial election results show 7,490 ballots were casted for the next four West University Place City Council members.

Former City Council member John Barnes leads the race with 1,213 votes, or 16%; followed by newcomer Kalie Jackura Rainsberger with 1,169 votes, or 15.61%. Trailing not far behind was former City Council member John Bertini with 1,129 votes, or 15.07%; and incumbent Clay Brett with 1,017, or 13.58% of votes casted.

"We expect that our ground game of incredible volunteers working tirelessly over the last 72 hours will be the difference in the end," Brett said.


Incumbent Matt Hart secured 995 votes. Candidates running for a seat on City Council will not compete for a specific position, but will be placed according to whomever receives the top four highest votes, according to city officials.

West University Place voters took to the polls during early voting, April 22-29 to vote for who will fill four open seats on City Council. Candidates running for a seat on City Council will not compete for a specific position, but will be placed according to whomever receives the top four highest votes, according to city officials.

Early voting results according to Harris County Elections shows a close race for the four positions up for grabs. Former City Council member John Barnes leads with 1,207 votes or 16%; newcomer Kalie Jackura Rainsberger trails behind with 15.58% of votes, or 1,163 votes; former City Council member John Bertini comes next with 15.05% of votes, or 1,123; and incumbent Clay Brett has 13.6% of votes or 1,015.

Incumbent Mayor Susan Sample will serve another term as she ran unopposed and garnered 1,435 votes during early voting.
