A new Greek-style cafe in the West University area is serving up homestyle Cretan food while also offering prepared meals for customers to take home.

Kriti Kitchen opened Jan. 17 in the Weslayan Plaza Shopping Center, 4010 Bissonnet St., Houston. The eatery is run by Mary Cuclis, according to a Jan. 17 press release.

“We crafted the menu with the goal of creating quality dishes for individuals and families who are constantly on the go,” Cuclis said in a statement.

The cafe offers all-day breakfast and lunch menus, and dishes are made with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients, according to the release.

The interior of the space is decorated with custom-built bronze and marble shelves that are filled with Greek olive oil, wines and dry goods. Greek-inspired baked goods will also be sold from a counter display.

Cuclis said recipes for her menu items were derived from her own Greek roots. She comes to her new endeavor after spending time at the Michelin-starred Bo Innovation in Hong Kong and at Pondicheri in Houston, according to the release.

Menu items include mezze boards, salads, wraps and protein bowls. A daily brunch menu will feature items such as the Mizithrapita—a cheese-stuffed pancake with a honey drizzle and a nut crumble. The venue will also offer a selection of Greek beer, wine and nonalcoholic Greek beverages.

In another effort to cater to families on the go, Kriti offers a rotating selection of "Heat & Eat" takeout meals that can be ordered ahead of time and picked up at the restaurant on the same day. Each meal comes with a list of ingredients and serving instructions.
