Since April 16, the number of COVID-19 patients in Intensive Care Unit beds has gone down 15%, while the number of current COVID-19 hospitalizations has declined 4%, according to a Texas Medical Center report.

The April 23 report indicates that ICU bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients has decreased from 311 on April 16 to 265, while there are 686 patients currently hospitalized for the viral disease, down from 699 on April 16.

In total, since the pandemic came to Houston, nearly 1,900 COVID-19-related patients have been hospitalized through the TMC system of hospitals, which includes member institutions spanning St. Luke’s, Harris Health System, Houston Methodist, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Hermann, and Texas Children’s Hospital in the following counties: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller, according to the TMC report.

Over 1,000 patients have been discharged, a 39% increase week over week. This figure comes as TMC has been looking to free up capacity in its hospitals in response to the pandemic.

Out of 1,549 ventilators total on hand, 1,084 were available April 23. Over 100 ventilators were in use by COVID-19 patients, according to the data.
