Italian market, cafe and bottle shop Mercato and Company is now open to West University residents and Houston food enthusiasts, according to a December news release.

The upscale convenience store offers a curated selection of global, domestic and local products, as well as culinary goods and gourmet experiences, per the release.

Shoppers can grab a freshly brewed cup of coffee and baked foccacia bread while browsing Mercato and Company's handpicked items, such as:
  • Texas-farmed produce
  • Local, regional and imported cheeses
  • Charcuterie ingredients, including fruit jams and olives imported from Italy and Spain
  • Ice cream, frozen pizzas and prepared meals
  • Pantry staples
  • Wine and beer
  • Italian serveware, soaps, candles and books

According to the news release, the West University shop plans to host cooking classes, wine tastings and pop-up events to foster a deeper connection to the community.

Arlene Ventura, who founded the brand, said in the release Mercato and Company aims to elevate the way people eat, shop and connect. Ventura lived in Italy for many years and brings a passion for quality, connection and culture to the gourmet grocery store.
