Staying local

El Bolillo Bakery started out as a small Mexican bakery in the Greater Heights area of Houston in the late 1990s. During that time, the bakery's popularity grew enough to demand that a bigger bakery be built across the street, according to its website. More than 25 years later, the bakery is set to open its fifth location.

What they offer

El Bolillo Bakery is self-serve, and guests can pick menu items such as conchas, or soft and fluffy buns topped with cinnamon; cuerno de queso, or buttery pastry filled with sweet cream cheese; and piernas de queso, or fluffy dough filled with sweet cream cheese. Customized cake options, including vanilla tres leches, will also be available.

The social media announcement also mentioned offering fresh tortillas and tamales.
