Cindy Wolf Meador could not remember a time when she was not swimming.

By the time she attended college at the University of Houston, where she swam on the university’s swim team, her eyes had been opened to a lifelong passion: teaching.

“I needed a summer job, and I was thrown into teaching lessons the summer after my freshman year,” Wolf Meador said. “I fell in love with it, and that’s where it all started.”

Wolf Meador also coached a summer league that year, but giving swimming lessons ignited her passion.

In 2005, Wolf Meador advanced her dream by buying a 12-foot-by-12-foot aboveground pool and putting it in her parents’ backyard in Meyerland.

With Houston’s weather presenting a concern, Wolf Meador needed a year-round solution. In 2007, after reaching out to the city of West University Place, she brought Wolfies Swim School to the city’s recreation center. By September 2017, after finding a plot of land in Bellaire, Wolfies Swim School opened a second location.

The school has been a big hit with swimmers of all ages, from toddlers to adults, Wolf Meador said. A differentiator for the school lies in its small class sizes—no more than three students per group class—designed to offer more personal instruction, she said.

The school also goes beyond lessons; it gives back to the community. The school’s monthly Give Back program helps an organization chosen by the school, students, and families.

Giving back to the community leads to an active and vibrant swim community, Wolf Meador said.

“Sometimes it’s just surreal when I come into the office to know that I helped build this, to see where I started and where we are now,” she said.
