The Miller Outdoor Theatre has much planned for July and August. Kid-friendly events are showcased in the beginning and middle of July, while the end of July and beginning of August has Shakespeare plays planned.

All performances are free at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, located at 6000 Hermann Park Drive, Houston. Attendees can get tickets for covered seating here, one day prior to the event. Hillside seating does not require a ticket.

The following events have been announced for July and August:

  • Rhyme & Reason (July 12): This event features music, dance and performance poetry presenting Black history from ancient Africa to today. This begins at 11 a.m and is live.

  • Let’s Make A Play Together (July 13): Improv actors will take suggestions from kids in the audience and create a children’s musical. This begins at 11 a.m and is live.

  • Fish Tales (July 14): Actors perform classic stories from all over the world using puppets and music while teaching kids lessons, such as coping with the unexpected and improvement. This begins at 11 a.m. and is online only. Watch it here.

  • Aztec Princess (July 15): Watch the Aztec Princess as she tells two Mexican fables while teaching kids English and Spanish vocabulary. This begins at 11 a.m. and is online only. Watch it here.

  • “King Lear” (July 28, 30; Aug. 1, 3, 5): Produced by The University of Houston, “King Lear” is a Shakespearean classic in which family and betrayal collide. The play is live at 8:15 p.m. each day.

  • “Cymbeline” (July 29; Aug. 2, 4, 6): Produced by The University of Houston, “Cymbeline” is a Shakespearean romance play about a young princess named Imogen and her secret marriage with Posthumus, a poor man. The play is live at 8:15 p.m. each day.
