League City received $15 million to invest in the city’s flood mitigation efforts.

What happened?

On May 21, Texas General Land Office Commissioner Dawn Buckingham presented League City with a $15 million grant to update the city’s master drainage plan, flood preparedness efforts and various drainage improvement projects, according to a May 29 news release from the city.

The presentation was made at the Houston-Galveston Area Council board of directors meeting. Council member Tommy Cones was present for the ceremonial check presentation, according to the release.

League City submitted the grant application in January 2023, according to the release.


What’s next?

The city will meet with the General Land Office this summer to discuss next steps for mitigating flooding in League City.
