To commemorate and celebrate Juneteenth, there are multiple events planned this June. This is not a comprehensive list of events.

1. Juneteenth Celebration

A nonprofit group organized by late Missouri City councilman Don Smith celebrates the June 19, 1865 freedom announcement to 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Galveston Bay with a two-day music festival at Hunters Glen Park. Featured acts include musicians Triple Threat, Alexander O’Neal and Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws.

2. Juneteenth Celebration

The BLCK Market on Main Street hosts its fifth annual Juneteenth celebration to honor the freedom of enslaved Black Americans and culture. The three-day event features live music, soul food, barbecue, vendors showcasing art and fashion and family-friendly games and activities. The first 250 guests will be admitted for free.

3. 2nd Annual Freedom Walk & Run

The second annual Freedom Walk & Run event will take place at Emancipation Park to create a positive effect on the lives of the community. While registration is free, proceeds from the event will go toward park programming initiatives.

4. Black Houston Bus Tour



A guided bus tour will take participants through historic African American communities in and around Houston. Due to limited seating, it is recommended to register before the event.

5. Juneteenth at Olivewood Cemetery

The walking tour, organized by Olivewood Cemetery, will allow visitors to celebrate and learn about Houston’s early African American community. The cemetery, incorporated in 1875, is the burial ground for prominent African American community members such as Richard Allen, Frank Vance and Lucy Farrow.

6. Juneteenth Culture Fest

At the weekend event organized by Houston First Corp., people will be able to celebrate the historical significance and culture of Juneteenth. The event will feature live music, art, Black-owned businesses, kid-friendly activities and food vendors, according to a news release.

7. Juneteenth Jubilee

The Sienna community will host this music, food and family festival at its Club Sienna Amphitheater. The Such and Such band will perform R&B, Motown and old school hits; artist Ange will present a live speed painting performance; and local vendors will have hand crafted products.

8. Juneteenth Celebration



In Tamina, the event will feature Marti Corn, who wrote “The Ground on Which I Stand: Tamina, a Freedmen's Town.” The event will also feature a panel discussion, activities for children and food.

9. Juneteenth Boat Party Cruise

This second annual Juneteenth celebration, held at South Shore Resort and Conference Center, features a three-hour cruise along the Gulf Coast, a live radio music broadcast from Power Moves Internet Radio, a buffet with all-you-can-eat food and drinks, and prize giveaways. Only 75 tickets are available, and parking is free with ticket purchase. Attendees must be 21 or older.

10. Juneteenth: An Elevated Kickback Experience

At Freedmen’s Town, this is a festive educational event to commemorate Juneteenth. This event will feature live music, educational activities, an art exhibition and food.

11. Juneteenth Cultural Arts Festival

In partnership with H-E-B, Acres Homes will host the fourth annual cultural arts festival. The event is family-friendly and will host vendors, food trucks and activities. In addition to that, there will be live performances by Bayou City Brass Band, Keyun & The Zydeco Masters, The Keeshea Pratt Band and AJ McQueen, according to the website.
