With all voting centers reporting for the Nassau Bay City Council Position 4 runoff race, James Abbey has been unofficially elected for the role.

Abbey gathered 344 votes, or 57.2% of the total in the June 18 election, while opponent John Mahon gathered 257 votes, 42.8% of the total votes, according to election data from Harris County.

Born and raised in Nassau Bay, Abbey enters the City Council with a background in business and economic development, according to a questionnaire Abbey completed for Community Impact Newspaper. Abbey ran on a platform focused on city budget management and improving flood mitigation infrastructure. Once elected, he will serve a two-year term on the City Council.

Abbey had not responded to Community Impact Newspaper's request for comment by press time.



Results will remain unofficial until canvassed by the city of Nassau Bay.

With early voting results in for the June 18 Nassau Bay City Council Position 4 runoff race, James Abbey leads with 257 votes, or 61.78% of the total votes, according to election data from Harris County.

John Mahon currently follows with 159 votes, 38.22% of the total votes.

Results are not yet finalized as election day votes continue to be counted. This story will be updated with the unofficial results as they become available. All election results are unofficial until canvassed.

A runoff election is held when no candidate receives a majority of the vote, or over 50%. In the May 7 election, Abbey gathered 45.6% of the total votes, while Mahon gathered 41.6%. The third candidate, Charles Pulliam, received 11.5% of the votes.
