Heading in the weekend, Galveston County has seen a total of 6,911 COVID-19 cases.

That is an increase of 459 since July 15—175 on July 16 and 284 on July 17.

Of the nearly 7,000 cases, 4,705 are active, 2,148 have recovered, and 58 have died.

July 14: The League City City Council voted to not approve sending Galveston County over $1 million in requested CARES Act funding to test and fight the coronavirus. Council members said they would rather see that money stay in League City and be used to help the city's residents. The council has a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. July 21 to discuss and possibly take action on the item again.


July 16: Starting July 1, League City resumed collecting late fees on utility bill payments. More than $250,000 in Community Development Block Grants funds are available to residents who need emergency economic help. Interfaith Caring Ministries is working with the city to distribute the funds. Those who need help can call the city at 281-554-1335 or Interfaith Caring Ministries at 281-332-3881.

July 16: Coronavirus cases in Harris County have almost reached 52,000.
