On June 11, Galveston County reported additional deaths from the coronavirus for the first time in more than a week.

The county has seen 1,114 total cases, with 538 recoveries and 40 deaths, since mid-March. The deaths reported June 11 are the first new deaths since June 3, and approximately 90 new cases have been reported since June 8.


The case count total includes outbreaks at five nursing homes in League City and Texas City, which account for roughly a third of the total cases in each city. Several cases were added June 11 to the totals at four of the five nursing homes.

1 p.m. June 11: A total of 314 new COVID-19 cases and five deaths were confirmed in Harris County on June 10, bringing total cases in the county to 15,552. Approximately 9,261 of those cases are active, while another 6,024 have recovered and 267 have died, according to Harris County data. For more coverage, click here.

7 p.m. June 9: The Texas Department of Emergency Management is in the process of coordinating with local officials in cities such as Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and El Paso in order to expand coronavirus testing in underserved and minority communities that have been affected by the virus. According to a June 8 press release from the office of Gov. Greg Abbott, the mission is part of TDEM's partnership with the Texas Military Department, the Texas Emergency Medical Task Force and the Texas Department of State Health Services. 6 a.m. June 9: Galveston County passed the 1,000-case mark: A total of 32 cases were reported June 8, bumping the total cases from 994 to 1,026.
