A new location of Georgia James, a concept from Underbelly Hospitality, will open July 1 in the Regent Square development at 3503 W. Dallas St., Houston. Before the move to its new home, the restaurant was operating at 1658 Westheimer Road, Houston, where it closed earlier in June.
According to a June 29 press release from the media company working in tandem with Regent Square and Underbelly, the new location will serve as an anchor for the second phase of Regent Square’s development. Georgia James is the first of three “jewel box spaces,” while a second Underbelly Hospitality concept, an Italian eatery called Pastore, is in the process of an interior build-out next door.
Upon arrival, guests will be greeted with a space that retains the original essence of Georgia James with nods toward mid-century styles. However, the look and feel of the location is “decidedly different,” according to the release, which said the floorplan’s color and design will mimic the surrounding environmental areas, including Buffalo Bayou and Regent Square’s green space.
“This is our first new-build site, which created a variety of benefits for the resulting design and functionality of the space,” said Chris Shepherd, the James Beard Award-winning chef and Underbelly co-founder, in the release. “We are so excited to welcome guests into this cosmopolitan, serene and airy dining room that is as much a representation of Houston’s evolution as it is of our own.”
