Update: Houston ISD will close Feb. 15-16 amid freezing weather

Houston ISD will close schools and offices on Feb. 15-16, meaning no virtual or in-person learning, and staff will not report to work, the district announced Feb. 12.

The district said students can still access digital resources and students will be allowed to submit current or late assignments on the HUB learning platform.

In addition, all athletic events and food distributions are cancelled Feb. 15-16.

Houston ISD announced it would transition all classes to a virtual format Feb. 15-16 as a historic cold front could create hazardous road conditions throughout the area.

Staff members will work remotely while students work in the asynchronous format, the district said.

City and county officials advised all residents to avoid the roads, especially after freezing temperatures arrive sometime Feb. 14.

About 44% of the district's students are already in the virtual learning format because of the coronavirus pandemic.
