Restaurant, menswear retailer announced for Montrose Collective

A yet-to-be-named restaurant and a men's clothing retailer are the two newest tenants that have been confirmed for Montrose Collective, a 185,000-square-foot retail and office space under construction along Westheimer Road in the Montrose area.

The unnamed restaurant concept is being brought by brothers Alex and Eric Smith—the founders of Atlas Restaurant Group, the group behind Ouzo Bay and Loch Bar in River Oaks. Expected to open this spring, the 5,500-square-foot Italian restaurant will seat 225 people and will specialize in handmade pastas, charcuterie and prime steak, according to a June 1 press release from Atlas.

“Frankly, we love Houston and plan to continue creating new brands here under the Atlas umbrella wherever it makes sense," Alex Smith said in a statement. "And Montrose Collective made absolute perfect sense.”

This fall, the first Texas location of menswear retailer State & Liberty will open in an 1,100-square-foot location at the development. The store bills itself as a technical fabric menswear line that bridges the gap between tailored dress shirts and performance apparel.

Upon completion this summer, the Montrose Collective development will offer 185,000 square feet of retail and office space, including six new restaurants and 15 retail shops, as well as a new Houston Public Library location, a pedestrian-friendly plaza and a parking garage. Construction on the project, which is being developed by Random Capital, began in February. The first tenants are set to open in the fall.

Office tenants that have been announced include Live Nation, which will lease two floors of office space. Earlier in May, officials with Random Capital announced the development will be home to the first brick-and-mortar retail location of the ceramacist Amano, which will sell concrete items—ranging from jewelry to home decor—crafted by the Houston artist Myrna Hagelsieb.
