Houston ISD will hold virtual graduation ceremonies starting June 14

Houston ISD will hold virtual graduations for the class of 2020, the district announced May 11.

"Considering current challenges surrounding the COVID-19 health crisis, the district believes virtual graduations are the safest option," the district wrote in its announcement.

A full schedule was not released, but the ceremonies will begin June 14.

The ceremony will include recorded speeches from district officials, and each student's name will be called out with a photo of the student.

Schools will share further details with their graduates, the district said, and each student will receive custom graphics to share on social media.

Last week, the Texas Education Agency released guidelines for several graduation options, including outdoor celebrations.

The ceremonies are in addition to a citywide celebration being held June 5.
