A new online marketplace connecting people with local chefs who prepare and deliver fresh, homemade meals launched in Houston this month.
Shef Service offers 1,351 diverse dishes from 60 cuisines, according to an Oct. 14 news release.
The specifics
Houston is the 10th market to join the platform, following similar markets such as Dallas, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago.
"Houston is a city that knows good food, but between long commutes and busy schedules, home-cooked meals are often the first thing to fall off the plate," said founder Joey Grassia. "The Weekly Shef Service now makes it effortless for Houstonians to schedule a real, homemade dinner on the table."
Through Shef, customers can choose dishes by cuisine or preference, including high-protein, vegetarian, gluten-free, GLP-1 friendly and kid-approved. Examples of popular meals include:
Meme Bowl: A Parmesan-coated chicken breast sliced over homemade mashed potatoes, smothered in house cream sauce, topped with crawfish and shrimp
Tri-Tip Steak: Marinated Tri-Tip steak reverse seared on a flat top griddle, served with chimichurri sauce
BBQ Chopped Chicken Salad: BBQ-seasoned chicken breast, shredded cheese, corn, black beans, red onions and mixed greens with a chipotle BBQ ranch dressing
Smoked Chicken Enchiladas: Smoked chicken enchiladas in roasted green chile sauce with fiesta salad
"Shef makes it simple to choose from thousands of diverse, authentic meals that arrive at your door, ready to eat," Grassia said. "Whether you’re a hectic family of five or a single professional, you no longer have to settle for a mediocre dinner, even on the busiest of weeknights.”
How it works
Customers can go on the Shef platform and select their zip code, how many people need the service and how many meals they want per week, as well as customizations such as household diet, preferred proteins and favorite cuisines.
Shef then analyzes the choices and gives recommendations on meals made by nearby chefs. Meals are then delivered during the week, depending on customer preference.
One more thing
Weekly meal subscriptions start at 4 meals per week and cost $35 for the first week, per the release. Costs will increase after the initial introductory offer. One-time ordering is also available.
Shef is available for residents across the Greater Houston area, including Houston proper and cities such as Bellaire, Pasadena, Clear Lake, Cypress, Katy and Spring/Klein. Service also extends into Fort Bend County, including Sugar Land, Missouri City, Pearland and Friendswood.
