A Swedish candy cart has made its way to Houston.
What is it?
Haus Candy, a mobile Swedish vintage-inspired cart, offers a rotating selection of 12-16 pick-and-mix varieties of candy. Pick-and-mix candy is a tradition in Sweden that founders Chelcie and Adam Aldred said they wanted to bring to Houston. Candies range from sweet to sour, and from foams and gummies to chewy and gel-filled varieties. The cart also offers gluten-free and gelatin-free options.
Some flavors include:
Banana toffee
Dizzy skulls
Happy chews
Sour apple
Sour cherries
Sour peach
Tutti frutti
The candy is imported from Sweden and free of most artificial dyes.
About the owners
Chelcie said she and her husband Adam "have a passion for design and a love for candy."
"We wanted Houston to have Swedish candy the way it's meant to be enjoyed: scooped from a cart with old-school candy shop charm," Chelcie said. "We were shocked when we realized Houston didn't have a Swedish candy cart yet, so we built the first one."
How it works
When a Haus Candy cart is at an event, customers walk up to the cart, scoop the candies they want into a bag and pay by weight. Free samples are available for everything on the cart.
Two attendants will serve guests. The company also offers a self-serve candy stand. Haus Candy also provides party packs of 8- and 16-ounce bags.
Also of note
Because it is mobile, Haus Candy can be found in different locations and is available for events and catering.
In October, the cart will be at different events, including Sterling's Market Fall Festival and trick-or-treat at Rice Village. For private events, Chelcie said they are based in Garden Oaks and travel anywhere within 35 miles for standard pricing, and farther for a travel fee.
