Grapevine uninsured rates increase more than 17% since 2020

Nearly 5 million Texans lack medical insurance, which equates to 16% of residents, according to a statewide report by nonpartisan public policy organization Texas 2036.

Texas’ uninsured population is the largest in the United States and nearly double the national average, per the 2036 report.

“This groundbreaking study will provide policymakers and the public with a holistic and detailed view of the uninsured population in Texas,” said John Hryhorchuk, Texas 2036 senior vice president of policy and advocacy, in a news release.

The overview

Based on census data, 12.9% of Grapevine residents, 2.6% of Colleyville residents and 1.8% of Southlake residents lack medical insurance.

Additionally, the percentage of uninsured individuals has grown in Grapevine from 2019-24, from 11.2% to 12.9%. The number of uninsured individuals has decreased over the same period in both Colleyville, from 3% to 2.6%, and Southlake, from 2.6% to 1.8%.

In both Colleyville and Southlake, the greatest number of uninsured individuals is those between the ages of 26 and 34, while Grapevine residents ages 35 to 44 have the highest number of uninsured, according to the census data.
