How it works
Zayne Huff, business manager for public works, presented details on how to participate and what residents should do to make sure their leaves get picked up.
Leaves should be bagged separately from other waste and with as few acorns and twigs as possible. Leaf bags should be placed on the curb before 7 a.m. and weigh less than 50 pounds to prevent tearing.
Leaves are composted and mulched to create nutrient-rich soil for gardening. Huff said over 3,600 tons of leaves have been diverted from the landfill since the beginning of the program.
Bags of leaves can be thrown out with regular trash all year, but these are not recycled, according to the city.
