1. East-West Connector at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport opens
A 1.65-mile stretch of road within the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport campus opened June 12. The $30.8 million East-West Connector was first envisioned nearly 20 years ago to connect transportation in the airport’s southern corridor, according to a news release. The roadway extends from Rental Car Drive to the Harwood Drive/SH 360 intersection and will connect drivers to the Southgate Plaza, near Terminal E and the under-construction Terminal F.

2. Houston-based bar Kirby Ice House to open Plano location
Houston-based Kirby Ice House is set to build a new location in Plano, according to a project listed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The bar has four locations in Houston, featuring more than 60 beers on tap and expansive patio space. The new Plano location will be 13,200 square feet, per to the TDLR listing, and is scheduled to finish construction in July 2027.

3. Dave & Buster's to debut 40,000-square-foot McKinney arcade, restaurant in July
Arcade and restaurant chain Dave & Buster’s is set to debut a new McKinney location July 27, Event Sales Manager Jeff York confirmed. The roughly 40,000-square-foot venue is the largest Dave & Buster’s location in North Texas, York said. Dave & Buster’s locations offer arcade games, as well as a food and drink menu featuring chicken wings, burgers, cocktails and more, according to its website.

4. On the Border shutters all company-owned locations
Tex-Mex restaurant On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina permanently closed all company-owned restaurants in mid-June, according to an emailed statement from OTB Hospitality. This includes all Texas locations. The company made the decision through an “evaluation of the business,” according to the statement.

5. Prosper council approves tennis-themed development
Volleys Village, a mixed-use development anchored by a tennis club, was approved by Prosper Town Council. Prosper officials approved a request to rezone 54.2 acres from agricultural uses to a planned development at a June 23 meeting. In addition to the tennis club, the development will include a hotel, event center, retail, restaurants and office space.

6. $2.5M purchase secures downtown Plano land for potential future redevelopment
Two properties totaling 1.59 acres in downtown Plano could be used for future redevelopment by the city. Plano City Council approved purchasing the land for $2.5 million at a meeting June 8. Two properties along 14th Street were purchased because of their proximity to a decommissioned water storage tank owned by the city on North Avenue, per city documents.
