Global Water Center bringing interactive experience to Grapevine Mills Mall

The Global Water Center is bringing its interactive Mobile Discovery Center to Grapevine Mills Mall beginning July 21. The exhibit is free-of-charge to the public and will be open at Grapevine Mills from July 21-25 and July 28-Aug. 1.

The Mobile Discovery Center is touring the nation throughout 2021, according to a release from the Global Water Center, with the goal of increasing awareness and encouraging action to address some of the issues the world's population faces related to water.

Designed for all ages, the MDC features fun, hands-on activities, including a water-testing station and treatment system. Other major themes on display in the interactive exhibit include "Water is Life," "Water and People" and "Safe Water for Everyone."

Using highly-visual mediums such as augmented reality, a 360-degree theater and radio-frequency identification technology, the exhibit's creators say it seeks to tell the "vibrant stories of water in our world."

One of the main goals is building awareness and, according to the GWC release, a lack of safe water is life-threatening situation that affects one-third of the world's population—or roughly 2.2 billion people. Every 37 seconds a person is killed by a preventable waterborne illness, according to the GWC.

"We are fortunate to live in a nation where almost everyone has access to clean, safe water and it's easy to lose sight of the perils faced by those in countries who don't," said Chris Holdorf, executive director for the Global Water Center, in the statement.

"The global water crisis is too complex to solve unless a consortium of organizations and individuals work together in development of a unified, strategic plan," he added. "The Mobile Discovery Center ties it all together and shows how we can successfully tackle these issues."
