As part of an update to Grapevine-Colleyville ISD’s hazardous route policy, some students in two elementary school attendance zones will now receive bus service.
Trustees unanimously approved the update, which identifies additional hazardous traffic conditions that make students eligible for transportation service, during the July 27 meeting.

Because of a change in attendance zones stemming from the closure of two elementary school campuses, GCISD staff re-evaluated hazardous traffic conditions within 2 miles of a campus that would impact students walking to school, according to district documents. Based on state law, hazardous conditions can include expressways or highways, an uncontrolled major traffic artery, a bridge or an overpass.
Students who live in identified areas with a hazardous condition are eligible for bus service provided by GCISD, per district documents.
The changes added two new areas identified, but will only impact a few students, said Chief Operations Officer Paula Barbaroux. The changes will impact some students who formerly attended Dove Elementary and will now go to Cannon Elementary, and others who formerly attended Bransford Elementary and will now go to O.C. Taylor Elementary.
Diving deeper
During the evaluation, GCISD staff found no changes were needed for the hazardous areas identified for middle and high school students.
Additionally, the updates will not require the district to add more personnel, buses or routes, per district documents. A few stops will be added to service the affected areas.
With the changes, the district will operate 83 stops to service identified hazardous areas, district documents state.
One more thing
An area with a previously identified hazard within part of the Heritage Elementary attendance zone no longer qualifies and will not receive service starting in the 2027-28 school year, Barbaroux said.
