Southlake seeking volunteers to serve on Alliance for Community Engagement

Southlake is looking for volunteers to serve on a committee that will give residents a voice in the city and its decisions.

Southlake City Council voted to create the Alliance for Community Engagement during its Aug. 16 meeting. Applications to serve on the 12-person committee can be submitted to the city until 5 p.m. Sept. 9.

“[The Alliance for Community Engagement] will be responsible for involving the community in the city’s decisions,” Assistant to the City Manager Major Youngblood said during the August meeting. “The committee will provide recommendations to enhance direct public involvement.”

The alliance combines two former groups: The Mayor’s Alliance for Unity and Culture and the Community Engagement Committee. During the same meeting, council voted to dissolve the two groups to “streamline” their responsibilities into one committee, according to a staff memo.

Members will be appointed to two-year terms and will serve at the will of council until their successors are sworn into office. Meetings are held at Southlake Town Hall. The group will meet quarterly. Terms will begin Oct. 1 and expire Sept. 31, the ordinance stated.
