Georgetown paratransit bus service expands ridership for residents over age 65

“The city of Georgetown remains committed to providing exceptional services where they are needed,” Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said in an Oct. 27 press release. “The council recognizes the need for our residents to access services, such as health care and shopping, and we know this service will help us meet the needs of our residents, particularly those with disabilities or our older residents who would need a ride.”

In addition to expanding its ridership, the service began operating two vehicles in fiscal year 2022-23. The first is reserved for paratransit—transportation for people with disabilities—and the other is for seniors.

According to city officials, GoGeo, which is operated by the Capital Area Rural Transportation System, or CARTS, as a subcontractor for CapMetro, serves 321 customers.

The service uses a door-to-door drop-off system and may fit 12 riders at a time.

Eligibility and screening for limited paratransit services is provided through a paper application by the CARTS. Georgetown residents age 65 and older can call CARTS at 512-478-7433 to complete an intake form.

A one-way fare costs $2, and the service operates Mon.-Fri. from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. within the Georgetown city limits. A map of the service area is available here.

Eligibility requirements

• Have a mobility impairment. A doctor or specialist must verify the application.

• Be over age 65.
