9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Georgetown firefighters and police officers participated in a memorial stair climb Sept. 11 as a tribute to the first responders who died during the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
During the event, held at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex, 2211 N. Austin Ave., participants climbed the equivalent of 110 stories—the height of the World Trade Center towers in New York City, according to a city news release.
The Art and Soul of Africa Rising fundraiser
Georgetown residents and individuals from throughout Texas gathered Sept. 19 at the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce Event Center to raise funds for the Fuankem Lekeanyi Memorial Medical Center in Cameroon.
Dr. Ekokobe Fonkem, a physician with Baylor Scott & White Health, founded the clinic in 2009 to provide residents of his native village with medical services, including emergency care, prenatal care, surgical services, infectious disease treatment, nutritional services and health education.
