Georgetown ISD board of trustees member Shelia Carter announced Dec. 17 that she would not seek re-election in May.
Carter was first elected to the board in May 2007 and has served as board secretary since 2011.
"We are at a darn good place in this district, and I am so proud of where it is," Carter said at the board's regular meeting Dec. 17. "I've always believed that anyone in a volunteer position needs to allow new blood and new ideas [to come in]."
Carter said some of the highlights during her tenure on the board included the passage of $137 million in bonds in 2010; the construction of the new McCoy Elementary School campus, and East View High and Mitchell Elementary schools; renovations at Frost Elementary and Georgetown High schools; security and technology updates at all schools; and the construction of Birkelback Field and the central receiving warehouse.
