An application to rezone 1.25 acres on the southwest corner of Wolf Ranch Parkway and University Avenue for a proposed car wash was denied by City Council on Oct. 22.
The property is currently zoned for agriculture and single-family residential use. Applicants were seeking a change to local commercial district, or C-1, zoning to build a Blue Wave Car Wash, according to a staff report.
"The applicant's stated intention is to develop a self-service, automated drive-thru car wash at that location," Georgetown Planning Director Andrew Spurgin told the council. "Staff is supportive of the C-1 zoning at this location but we do share some concerns of the appropriateness of a car wash facility. ... This is a major intersection on our westerly approach to the city."
The rezoning request was recommended for approval by city staff and the planning and zoning commission, he said, adding that if the zoning change had been approved, the city would not have been able to limit what was built on the property as long as it met the zoning requirements.
