Williamson County veterans services director named service officer of the year in Central Texas

Williamson County Veterans Services Director Sherry Golden was presented with the Outstanding Service Officer of the Year Award for Central Texas on Nov. 5.

Golden, who was previously a stay-at-home mom with twins, started in the department as a receptionist and eventually rose her way up to director, she said.

Thomas Belton, president of the Veterans County Service Officers Association of Texas, presented Golden with the award.

“Our veterans are made better because of your service,” County Judge Bill Gravell said to Golden.

The Williamson County Veterans Services Office provides eligible veterans, dependents and survivors with direct and general support and assistance in obtaining all benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Texas and the county, according to their website.

The VSO is located at 100 Wilco Way, Georgetown.
