Georgetown ISD announced Monday morning that the district will hold a grand opening celebration event for George Wagner Middle School, the district’s newest campus. GISD officials will celebrate Wednesday, Dec. 20, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the new campus, located at 1621 Rockride Lane, Georgetown. Wagner students had their first day of classes at the new school Nov. 27 after nearly a semester at the former Williams Elementary School campus on University Avenue.  

According to a district statement, the grand opening day will begin at 9:15 a.m. with a coffee and cake reception, followed by a program with speakers including Superintendent Fred Brent, Principal Lindsay Harris and George Wagner, for whom the school is named after. The ribbon will be cut at 9:55 a.m., with student-led tours of the campus to follow. Wagner Middle School was funded through voter-approved bonds at a cost of $55 million, part of a larger $160.6 million bond package passed by Georgetown voters in November 2015. According to the district, Wagner Middle School was designed to facilitate a new model of teaching to prepare students for the a modern work environment and allow for flexibility during instruction. The new campus features an open design concept and collaboration space.
