Important dates to kick off 2023-24 school year in Georgetown ISD

Georgetown ISD will open its doors to more than 13,000 students for the first day of the 2023-24 school year Aug. 17.

The district begins the new school year with a brand-new superintendent. The GISD board of trustees, absent Place 1 Trustee James Scherer, voted unanimously to hire Superintendent Devin Padavil to serve the district as the board's lone employee Aug. 7.

Looking ahead

Check out some important dates for GISD students.

• The first long weekend for students will be Sept. 2-4.
• Thanksgiving break is a full week Nov. 20-24.
• Winter break will start Dec. 20, and classes will resume Jan. 8.
• The last day of school is May 24.
