Georgetown ISD's new superintendent said the district it is entering a "critical" period as it plans for continued growth.
Current situation
At an Oct. 11 Georgetown Chamber of Commerce luncheon, GISD Superintendent Devin Padavil addressed a room of community members, some of whom said they have children in the school district. Data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in May showed Georgetown is the fastest-growing city in the country with a population of more than 50,000 residents, and Padavil said the district is reckoning with a ballooning student body.

Georgetown ISD staff are weighing two different approaches to rezoning elementary and middle school attendance boundaries in anticipation of opening two new schools in 2024.
What's happening?
The district has held several community meetings for residents to share input on the rezoning process, which district staff said during a Dec. 4 workshop brings plans to a crossroads: choosing to adjust boundaries just enough to balance capacity as the district works to build more schools, or pursuing a more impactful rezoning to allocate students among its existing campuses and the two under construction.
