Georgetown ISD students improved in almost all subjects and grade levels on the 2026 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, with the district performing at or above state averages on seven exams.
According to newly released data from the Texas Education Agency, GISD students improved their performances year over year in all but four STAAR assessment categories.
The context
The TEA classifies STAAR performances into four levels:
Statewide results indicated growth in social studies and math as reading scores remained relatively flat, according to a news release from the TEA.
By the numbers
Overall, GISD students performed better in math than in previous years but still largely remained below state-level. Though sixth-grade reading results were 2 points above the state average, the district was 1 or 2 points behind state results for all other reading exams.
In terms of the eighth-grade social studies results, GISD students posted an improvement of 3 points over last year’s district results and were a point above the statewide average.
"[Our] team is digging into preliminary STAAR and end-of-course data now and are encouraged by what we see, including significant growth in some areas that exceed performance goals as set by our board of trustees," GISD Superintendent Devin Padavil said. "Our community expects us to have high-performing schools, and I'm incredibly proud of the work of our students, teachers, and campus leaders that reflects the high-quality learning happening in our schools."
At the high school level, GISD students performed at state level for the English I end-of-course exam, marking a 7-point jump from last year’s scores. Additionally, GISD students also scored a point above state level on the biology exam and English II EOC exam.
While GISD students improved by 7 points on the Algebra I EOC exam, the district falls 3 points short of the state average.
“Evidence of student learning, including preliminary STAAR results, shows significant gains in all areas across the district,” Padavil said in a June 15 news release, where he noted the importance of teacher compensation following the approval of the district's budget.
While students will still take the STAAR test for the upcoming academic year, three shorter tests administered throughout the year beginning in the fall of 2027 will replace STAAR testing under House Bill 8.
