Aalo Atomics, a nuclear engineering company based in Austin, plans to expand its advanced manufacturing operations to Georgetown, according to a filing with the Department of Licensing and Regulation.
About the project
The project will renovate an existing 204,350-square-foot one-story warehouse to provide lab, machine shop and production floor space for the company.
The $25 million project is estimated to take place from Nov. 15, 2026, to Jan. 30, 2028.

Founded in 2023, Aalo Atomics designs and builds small, factory-made nuclear power plants primarily intended to power artificial intelligence data centers, according to its website.
Traditional nuclear plants are much larger and can take a decade to construct, while Aalo builds compact reactors in a factory and ships them to where power is needed.
On July 4, Aalo successfully started a self-sustaining nuclear reaction with its Critical Test Reactor, according to the website. This means that the reactor can safely run and generate energy. The CTR was built in less than eight months.
Why it matters
Nuclear reactors provide clean energy by splitting atoms rather than burning fossil fuels. The process releases no greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere.
The ultimate goal is to mass-produce Aalo pods to provide constant, clean electricity to the energy-intensive data centers that run AI, according to the company.
