Georgetown ends 2020 strong with high sales tax revenue

Georgetown ended 2020 having generated 21.29% more in sales tax than it did the year prior, according to data released in February by the Texas State Comptroller's Office.

In the report, the city brought in $3,889,049 in sales tax revenue in December—up from $3,214,650 the year prior—despite the coronavirus pandemic continuing to impact business capacity limitations.

The city has also seen significant sales tax growth since 2016, increasing by 70.23% over the five-year span, data shows.

Sales tax revenue funds about 8.4% of the city of Georgetown’s budget.

While city officials first predicted severe declines in generate revenue at the start of the pandemic in March, the worst-case scenario proved not to be the case in Georgetown.
