JUST IN: Williamson County school districts announce plans for free and reduced lunches with school cancellations

Williamson County ISD superintendents and County Judge Bill Gravell announced plans March 17 for meal services while schools are closed to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"Every kid in Williamson County starting on Monday [March 23] will be provided breakfast or lunch in some form at all of our school districts," Gravell said.

On March 14, Gravell issued a local disaster declaration following disaster declarations by President Donald Trump and Governor Greg Abbott. On March 16, following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Gravell also issued an order stating community gatherings of 50 people or more anywhere in Williamson County have been prohibited for the next eight weeks to slow the transmission of COVID-19.

Here is how Williamson County school districts plan to address meal services:

Georgetown ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• Starting Monday, March 23, the district will provide breakfast and lunch from 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Frost Elementary, 711 Lakeway Drive, Georgetown; Purl Elementary, 1953 Maple St., Georgetown; and Pickett Elementary School, 1100 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Georgetown.
• Backpack Buddies will continue to provide deliveries to participating families on a weekly basis. Food will be distributed to homes on Thursday or Friday each week by the district's transportation department. GISD will communicated in more detail with impacted families.

Hutto ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

Jarrell ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• "Grab and go" food services for students will begin Monday, March 23, where meals can be picked up from Igo Elementary, 1601 CR 314, Jarrell, from 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. and noon-1:30 p.m.
• The district is also working to open 3-5 meal pick-up locations.

Leander ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• Food services to all students for breakfast and lunch will be provided from 7:30 a.m.-9 a.m. and noon-1:30 p.m. at Bagdad Elementary School, 800 Deercreek Lane, Leander; Reed Elementary School, 1515 Little Elm Trail, Cedar Park; River Place Elementary School, 6500 Sitio Del Rio Blvd., Austin; and Running Brushy Middle School, 2303 Lakeline Blvd., Cedar Park. Verification of enrollment will be needed.

Liberty Hill ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• Beginning March 23, free breakfast and lunch meals will be available to all LHISD students age 0-18. Meals will be available from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Meals will be served in a drive-thru format at Liberty Hill Junior High, 13125 TX-29, Liberty Hill. Eligible student must be in the vehicle.
• Packaged meals will also be delivered along bus routes for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Parents will be notified of estimated time of arrival.

Round Rock ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• In collaboration with the Texas Department of Agriculture, RRISD will prepare and distribute meals for children under the age of 19 at 10 locations around the district beginning Monday, March 23. Meals will be served Monday-Friday from 8-9 a.m. and 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
• The schools are: Anderson Mill Elementary, 10610 Salt Mill Hollow, Austin; Caldwell Heights Elementary, 4010 Eagles Nest St., Round Rock; Callison Elementary, 1750 Thompson Trail, Round Rock; C.D. Fulkes Middle School, 300 W. Anderson Ave., Round Rock; Double File Trail Elementary, 2400 Chandler Creek Blvd., Round Rock; Forest North Elementary, 13414 Broadmeade Ave., Austin; Hernandez Middle School, 1901 Sunrise Road, Round Rock; Joe Lee Johnson Elementary, 2800 Sauls Drive, Austin; Success High School, 500 Gattis School Road, Round Rock; and Union Hill Elementary, 1511 Gulf Way, Round Rock.

Taylor ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• "Grab and go" lunches will be provide between March 16-20 from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Meals will be provided in a "drive-thru" cafeteria format at the Main Street Event Center, 3101 N. Main St., Taylor. Bagged meals will be provided free of charge for all children, ages 18 and under.

Thrall ISD

School canceled until April 6

Meal services plan:

• All students will be eligible for free "grab and go" breakfasts and lunches for the week of March 16-20. Meals are available from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the ES-MS Cafetorium, 201 S. Bounds St., Thrall. The student receiving the meal must be in the vehicle.
