The city of Frisco is set to get its first Trader Joe’s grocery store as part of a proposed mixed-use development.
The Frisco City Council unanimously approved the development Oct. 6, which will include a 12,500-square-foot Trader Joe’s, a 158-unit senior living facility and other mixed-use elements.
A construction timeline and other details are not yet available.
The details
The mixed-use development will be located at the southwest corner of Majestic Gardens Drive and Main Street.
The 9.4-acre development will include a 3.22-acre site for Trader Joe’s and 6.18 acres for the senior living facility. The property was originally zoned to accommodate retail, office and single-family residential.
Zoning regulations allowed the addition of the Trader Joe's to the property, but a zoning request was needed for the senior living facility. Frisco’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved the development in July, and the development was tabled by the Frisco City Council in August.
What you need to know
Travis Thompson, a representative for landowner SNS Frisco West Main Station LLC, said the Trader Joe’s mixed-use property aims to create a destination that improves everyday life for residents “for decades to come.”
Over the past two years, Thompson said he met with City Council members, residents and planning officials to ensure the project aligned with Frisco’s vision. Since then, the project has undergone numerous modifications and enhancements, including:
Increased parking for residents and visitors
Expanded open space
Enhanced landscaping and streetscape improvements along Majestic Gardens
Architectural refinements designed to improve the development’s appearance and character
Revisions based on feedback from residents and city staff
What they’re saying
“This project has evolved considerably from the very beginning and we wouldn't be here today without all of you working with us,” Thompson said. “We feel like we’re bringing a very sought-after retailer while providing something the city and its citizens need in a senior housing community.”
“Sometimes the journey is not always easy, but the destination is something to be celebrated,” Frisco Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Angelia Pelham said. “As you look at our city demographics, we continue to see aging populations, so to be able to offer more senior living options is certainly a plus for us.”
“Our city staff have put countless hours into this project over the last two years,” Frisco City Council member Brittany Colberg said. “This result gives our community two meaningful things, a retailer our residents have been overwhelmingly begging us for for a long time and senior housing, something that we need to create a Frisco that serves people in all stages of life.”
What else to know
Trader Joe’s officials first confirmed they were considering plans for a Frisco location in October 2025. The mixed-use project’s zoning change was approved by the Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission during its July 28 meeting.
The Trader Joe's store and senior living facility will be constructed in a single phase, according to city documents. The senior living facility cannot open until Trader Joe’s opens. Neither project has a construction timeline or contractor.
