UNT reduces summer course costs, opens emergency aid applications

The University of North Texas is offering reduced costs for summer classes in response to the coronavirus’s financial impact on students.

“We recognize that one of the biggest burdens many students are facing right now is financial insecurity,” UNT President Neal Smatresk said in a letter to students April 15.

UNT at Frisco typically serves Frisco students out of its Hall Park and Inspire Park locations.

Since the May, Summer I and full summer sessions will be held online, students will not have to pay certain fees that usually cover student support services on campus, Smatresk said. Waived fees include those for the recreational facility, the student union, medical services, transportation and athletics, he said.

“Students can take advantage of these summer sessions and reduced costs to save money and stay on track to graduate on time,” Smatresk said.

Need-based aid will also be available to UNT students due to a boost in student aid through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, Smatresk said.

UNT’s emergency grants-in-aid program is available for currently enrolled students and those who enroll in summer sessions, he said.
