Frisco ISD trustees approve updated attendance zones

Parents often give feedback regarding proposed school zones during board meetings. For the first time, FISD held a public forum a month before the plans for the proposed zones were presented in 2015. FISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon said he believes the forum gave parents a better understanding of how the rezoning process works in FISD.

Lyon said the rezoning process in 2015 seemed to go more smoothly than in years prior.

“We were so pleased with the participation and the opportunity to lay it all out before anyone had seen any maps, and maybe that’s the thing that was so good about this process,” Lyon said. “We feel like we’ve improved it and we will continue to look for ways to improve it.”

Rezoning is an annual process for FISD because of the growing student population and need for more schools.

In 2017, FISD will open four new schools, including the 10th high school Memorial High School. In the past 20 years there have been more than 50 new schools built in FISD.

In May 2014, Frisco voters approved a $775 million bond referendum that assigned a portion of the fund to build 14 new schools.
