Frisco temporarily closes, adjusts some children's programming due to rising COVID-19 cases in region

The city of Frisco announced Aug. 25 that hours for some facilities and programs for children will close or have modified hours due to surging cases of COVID-19 in the region.

The Ready to Read Railroad program inside the Frisco Public Library is closed until further notice, according to a news release. Beginning Aug. 27, the Play Depot child care facility inside the Frisco Athletic Center will temporarily close until further notice.

Storytime at the Frisco library will continue outside, now called “Story Time on the Square.” Attendees should look for storytellers north of the building in Simpson Plaza. Dates, times and capacities remain the same, and events will be canceled during inclement weather.

The Frisco Water Park is closed for the season. However, the Paws in the Pool event Sept. 18 remains scheduled, according to the release.

The news comes the same day that the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council reported there were no staffed pediatric intensive care unit beds available in hospitals in a 19-county region of North Texas due to the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 as well as RSV, a respiratory virus. Hospitals were set to adjust operations as needed to ensure room to treat additional patients, according to the council. The 3,186 total patients with COVID-19 in hospitals in those same counties represent 21.35% of available bed capacity and 48.9% of adult ICU patients, the council's Aug. 25 report stated.
