The city of Frisco is ground spraying for mosquitoes Saturday and Sunday after another mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus.
A total of three Frisco mosquito pools have tested positive for the virus. No human cases have yet been confirmed in Frisco.
The city began testing mosquitoes May 1.

Spraying will take place at 9 p.m. Saturday and continue through 6 a.m. Sunday. Spraying will then resume at 9 p.m. Sunday and continue through 6 a.m. Monday. The areas that will be sprayed will be city-owned property surrounding Oak Park on the west side of Preston Road.
“Because the North Texas region is seeing an increase in the mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus, we’re targeting adult mosquitoes by spraying the city-owned greenbelt,” said Patrick Prather, the city’s contracted entomologist, in a city press release.
City staff will continue to monitor the impacted area and apply larvicide as needed.
The city of Frisco supports precautionary steps promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services, which are commonly referred to as “The Four D’s”:
- drain all standing water;
- dress in light-colored, long-sleeve clothing when outdoors;
- deet—use mosquito repellents that contain deet; and
- dusk or dawn—avoid outdoor activities during these hours when mosquitoes are most active.
