Frisco spraying for mosquitoes near Copper Point Lane

The city of Frisco announced crews will ground spray from June 26-28 after a mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus within the past week.

Frisco will be spraying in an area near Copper Point Lane in the Village Lakes neighborhood. A third-party contractor will apply treatment at 9 p.m. June 26 and continue through 5 a.m. June 27. Spraying resumes at 9 p.m. June 27 and will finish at 5 a.m. June 28.

“With the Fourth of July holiday coming up, and as people spend more time outdoors, we remind everyone to be proactive and follow the ‘wear, apply and remove’ guidelines,” said Julie Fernandez, environmental health supervisor, in the announcement. “It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to spread the disease, so protect yourself and your family and follow these three simple steps as you celebrate.”

No human cases of West Nile have been confirmed this year, according to the city.

Residents are encouraged by the city to wear long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. Insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus should also be considered each trip outside, according to tips from the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Standing water that collects in bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants and gutter splash blocks should be drained to discourage mosquito breeding.
