Flower Mound officials approve more than $700K in spending for vehicles, erosion control

The Flower Mound Fire Department will get two new vehicles and an HVAC system after town officials approved three projects totaling more than $871,000 at a meeting Jan. 21. One of the projects includes installing erosion control features near the town's wastewater treatment facility.

The Flower Mound Town Council unanimously approved the spending on the projects and received a grant for improvements to a local fire station. The town's Fire Station No. 5 will receive a new HVAC system after Town Council approved the acceptance of a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The $132,150 grant came in the form of a voucher as part of the non-competitive Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant Program, which is sponsored by the federal department. The funds will be used on the new HVAC system, which qualifies for the program because it has superior energy efficiency, according to town documents.

Town Council also approved the purchase of a $582,375 contract for creek bank stabilization and erosion control services from Knight Erosion Control Inc.

The company will design and install a retaining wall on the eastern edge of Bakers Branch near the town’s wastewater treatment facility. Knight Erosion Control Inc. will also install a grade control structure down stream. The work is necessary to prevent further erosion to Bakers Branch and damage to the wastewater treatment facility infrastructure.

What else?

Members of the council also approved spending on two Ford F-150s for the Fire Department. One will cost the town $76,987 and will replace one of the department’s multi-purpose vehicles. The second one will cost $80,207 and will replace the assistant fire chief’s current vehicle. Both vehicles are being replaced as part of the town’s vehicle equipment replacement program.
