Argyle ISD board gets preliminary figures for next budget year

Argyle ISD expects to have a general fund revenue estimate of $55 million in fiscal year 2023-24, trustees heard at their April 17 board meeting.

That $55 million figure is about a $6 million jump from just under $49 million this year, said Chief Financial Officer Liz Stewart, who delivered a presentation. The numbers have steadily climbed in recent years, and those increases occured because of enrollment growth, Stewart said. In 2018-19, revenues were at just under $29 million.

Stewart added certified estimated property values from the Denton Central Appraisal District are due April 30 with certified property values due July 25. A public hearing to adopt the budget and tax rate will be Aug. 21.

“Everything we’re doing now is based on current law because that’s what we know right now; that’s what we can build a budget on,” Stewart said, adding as laws change, the district can adapt.

Stewart said these are budget considerations to take into account:

• Personnel costs
• Increased enrollment
• Substitute staffing
• Custodial cost and utilities
• Utilities for additional facilities
• Campus and department requests
• Inflation

Stewart added the law requires the compression of the maintenance and operations portion of the district tax, which now figures to be a potential of $0.07, with the interest and sinking portion remaining at $0.50. The tax rate for AISD continues to trend down with the rate at $1.3976 for 2022-23 school year, down from $1.40 for 2021-22.
