Argyle ISD board approves $4.97 million for Argyle Intermediate School renovations

Argyle ISD board of trustees moved forward to approve renovations to the Argyle Intermediate School campus.

The Argyle ISD board approved a $4.97 million contract to Cavalry Construction during a Nov. 14 board meeting. Funding for the project comes from the 2017 bond, which allocated funds for the project.

Argyle voters approved a $166 million bond in 2017 for multiple projects across the district to address student enrollment growth, capacity and renovations to existing facilities. Other district projects from the bond included a transportation center, new buses and renovations and updates at Argyle High, Argyle Intermediate and Hilltop Elementary schools.

The scope of the project includes the gym roofing, replacing the intermediate school’s ceilings and intrusion prevention window film, according to the agenda.

Three bids were received for the work at Argyle Intermediate, according to the agenda item. Cavalry’s bid was lower than the other two that came in from MSB Constructors at $7.27 million and Pogue Construction at $5.91 million.

Calvary has done similar projects in the districts including flood repairs last year, district Construction Manager Jeff Koehn said during the meeting.

The project is currently over its $4.1 million budget, Koehn said. The total project cost has reached about $6.8 million including the Nov. 14 item.

“The one thing that jumps out to me is timing. It seems that timing is killing us on our budget,” Joshua Westrom said about the rising cost of construction. “We just had a bond for $260 million to spend. We need to go. The longer we drag that out the more we are going to bust the budget.”
