Marlow, a bar, closes after three years on East 6th

East 6th Street bar Marlow closed its doors Aug. 29, per its social media accounts.

The bar overlooked Waller Creek in downtown Austin since its founding in September 2023 by locals Mike DeBonville and Joe Schumacher, in partnership with creative developer Wade McElroy, according to previous Community Impact reporting. 

The details

Marlow ran a cocktail program, where each house drink was credited to the bartender who created it, alongside a martini list, a tiki-themed shot menu, and a curated natural wine and local beer selection, according to the bar's website menu.

The send-off

Marlow announced its permanent closure via Instagram Aug. 17, inviting followers to one last "mega hang" Aug. 29 before shutting its doors for good. The bar marked the occasion with live music, a celebrity bartender, flash tattoos, football and discounts during the day, which rolled into a night event with a DJ, a taco and pupusa pop-up, and a casket as part of the send-off theme, per the post, where commenters recalled holiday parties and other memories in honor of Marlow's closing.
