The Downtown Denton Foundation acquired the Denton Central Business District Association Inc., also known as the Denton Main Street Association, the organization announced in an April 10 news release.
What's happening?
The acquisition merges the two nonprofit organizations to emphasize focus on “one stronger organization focused on promoting, preserving and growing downtown Denton,” the release states.
The Downtown Denton Foundation will consolidate all Denton Main Street Association membership operations, programs and annual events under one umbrella, which will aim to provide more support, resources and programming to local Denton businesses and residents.
The emphasis on maintaining downtown Denton as a cultural hub celebrating art, music, history and community will remain the same, according to the release.
“By bringing these two forces together, we’re simplifying how we support Downtown Denton and amplifying what our community experiences,” said Molly Carter, director of operations for Denton Main Street Association. “This transition strengthens the engine behind our most beloved events and opens new doors for funding, collaboration and long-term success.”
The details
All Denton Main Street Association annual events will remain the same and will now operate under the Downtown Denton Foundation.
Some of these events include:
- Twilight Tunes
- Arts & Autos
- Blazin’ Burger Trail
- Wassail Fest
Events under the Downtown Denton Foundation will remain the same, as well. These events include:
- First Fridays
- Cocoa Crawl
- Shamrock Shuffle
- Mimosa Hop
- Historic Bar Tour
- Margarita Mosey
- Denton Craft Beer Crawl
These events, along with others, will now be on the same shared calendar, according to the release.
Zooming in
Some of the changes with the merging of the two nonprofits include the consolidation of operations, governance and resources. This is to help with planning, new fundraising opportunities and to be more intentional with events, marketing and city preservation efforts.
“The heart of DMSA—its mission, values and events—lives on within the Foundation, now with greater capacity to serve downtown businesses and the community,” said Denton Main Street Association President Kristen Kendrick Bigley.
The city of Denton’s Main Street Program, which works in cooperation with the Denton Main Street Association, will remain a nationally accredited Texas Main Street Program through the Texas Historical Commission, according to the release.
