Denton City Council approved roughly $11.8 million for animal care services, medical equipment and information technology at a Feb. 3 council meeting.

Council members approved a contract with veterinary service provider Relief Services for Veterinary Practitioners, or RSVP, for staffing services at the McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center. The contract is set for one year with the option to extend up to five years for a maximum amount of $9 million. The city’s current staffing contract expires in March.
The veterinary services include unscheduled urgent care, after-hours emergency care surgical procedures, vaccinations, sterilizations and diagnostic testing.
The animal shelter is staffed entirely through RSVP, but officials are looking into options to hire veterinarians and vet technicians in-house, Animal Services Director Nikki Sassenus said.
“[Hiring veterinary staff] is something we are exploring with finance right now and [Human Resources.] If we can bring them in-house, that would be preferable,” Sassenus said.
What else?
Council also approved a roughly $1 million, five-year contract with medical technology company Stryker for maintenance and repair services on medical equipment used by the Denton Fire Department. City documents show the medical equipment includes defibrillators, power lifts, stretchers and CPR devices.
Officials approved about $1.8 million to renew a contract with IT company Carahsoft Technology to use the Procore project management system. City officials initially implemented the software in 2021, and now use it for capital projects and resource planning, according to city documents.
