The Downtown Denton Foundation will host the 27th annual Arts & Autos event, which will be held Sept. 12 and includes a kick-off party Sept. 11, according to a news release.
What’s happening?
The Arts & Autos event celebrates classic cars, local artistry and community and will take place Sept. 12 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., according to the release. It’s held annually in the Denton Square and features classic hot rods, a chalk art competition, goods from local vendors and live music.
There will be a kids zone with an art garage, where participants can take a car part and paint it, the Lemonade Lane kids market and Chalk Fest, a contest where the pavement around the square is decorated by artists of any level with chalk art.
The surrounding Denton Square area will be barricaded to create a pedestrian-only zone during the event, according to the release.
To kick off the event, there will be a pre-party celebration held Sept. 11 with a car cruise around the square at 5:30 p.m. Afterward, guests can go to the Patterson Appleton Arts Center, where art cars will be on display and guests can have gallery access, listen to live music, see a fantastical vehicle showcase and take part in a community graffiti car event, according to the release.
The backstory
This is the first year the Downtown Denton Foundation will host Arts & Autos after it acquired the Denton Main Street Association in April, according to previous reporting. The Denton Main Street Association previously organized the event.
